For Sale: DMR Switchback steel hardtail mountain bike
Hi everyone ,
I'm looking to sell my DMR Switchback mountain bike. I've had a lot of the bits since c2004-2005 and bought the frame secondhand in 2010. A few things will need some work in the near future (principally the bottom bracket soon, and then maybe the chain, cassette, and the back wheel too depending on how you feel), so potentially a bit of a 'project bike'. It could be used for a pretty a wide range of stuff. In various incarnations I've used it for urban comuting, natural XC in Scotland and trail centre blue, red and (tentatively) black routes.
£150 (or make me an offer) for a fellow CCH member willing to give it a good home! It could be the basis for your perfect keeping-fit-around-Epping-Forest machine.
Specs:
Size - 18&1/2" I think. I'm 5'11&1/2" and the Easton seatpost reaches high enough for correct climbing position and could go 2-3cm further (without going beyond the minimum position!).
Frame - DMR Switchback Reynolds 520 steel hardtail frame, designed for XC use. Blue, in good condition (i.e. nothing broken) but with various scratches and scuffs and areas of grey paint touchup. Very responsive on the trail probably the biggest selling point.
Forks - Marzocchi Z1 Bombers, 130mm travel. Circa 2001-2002 vintage (from when they still made them in Italy) but still going strong.
Brakes - Hope Minis, living up to their reputation and still working well. Probably the second biggest selling point after the frame
Wheels - Mavic 717 and 721 rims on Shimano XT hubs. Fair bit of play on the back hub, some on the front but not so much. If you're into playing with cone bearings it might be fine after a strip down and regrease, if you'd rather not bother a new back wheel is probably needed at some point.
Gears - Shimano Deore, 27 speed. Dial on left shifter broken off but works fine. Chain and cassetter probably in need of repalcement after a bit more riding
Other - Big WTB saddle. Fair bit of tread on the tyres (Mavic High Roller on the back, Continetal 'Vertical' on the front). I can leave the Shimano SPD pedals on if you want them, they're pretty loose now though.
Bottom bracket - Needs replacing soon, fair bit of play.
Pickup from Upper Clapton. Let me know if you would like any more info, photos etc
Cheers,
James
